Words “Drogheda” & “Appealing” Appear in Sentence For First Time

For the first time in human history, the words “Drogheda” and “appealing” appeared in the same sentence this week.

The unlikely pairing came as Drogheda United, the beleaguered League of Ireland club, lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over their expulsion from European competition. The appeal, much like the town itself, was swiftly deemed without merit, leaving locals and football fans alike wondering if anything about Drogheda could ever be described as “appealing” again.

An eerie silence descended over Drogheda when the appeal’s rejection was announced, broken only by raucous celebrations in nearby Dundalk, where rival fans’ jubilation reportedly registered 4.2 on the Richter scale.
